In this article you can find out more about the parameters available in the advanced GridX Expert Advisor.
This article will cover in particular the Risk Management settings, which let you control the risk exposure and mitigate the most common grid martingale weaknesses.
GridX is the advanced grid systems with optional dollar cost average feature and martingale.

Risk Management Settings in GridX EA
Grid trading systems are often criticized for their potential to blow accounts when the market trends strongly against the positions.
This is not without reason. By nature, a grid martingale strategy opens additional trades into losses, and if left unchecked, this can lead to runaway drawdowns.
That is why risk management is not just a supporting feature but the backbone of a safe grid trading approach.
In GridX EA, the Risk Management Settings provide the tools you need to limit losses, manage exposure, and maintain control of your account.

Max Basket Loss
The Max Basket Loss setting is the cornerstone of account protection.
It allows you to define the maximum percentage of your account balance that can be lost in a single basket.
For example, if you set it to 20 percent, GridX will automatically close all trades in a basket once losses reach that threshold.
This ensures that even in extreme market conditions, you can cap your downside and live to trade another day.
Example with Max loss 2%, some losses realized to mitigate floating drawdowns

Example with 50% Max loss, it is never hit in this case and the drawdown persists for some time

Cool Off After Max Loss
When a max loss is triggered, GridX gives you the option to pause trading for a defined period. This is where the Cool Off After Max Loss parameter comes in.
By setting a delay in minutes, the EA will stop opening new baskets until the cool-off time has passed.
This is particularly valuable after large market moves, news events, or sudden spikes in volatility.
It prevents the EA from re-entering immediately into unfavorable conditions.
Stop Trading After Max Loss
Sometimes the best way to protect your capital is to halt trading altogether.
By enabling Stop Trading After Max Loss, the EA will completely stop taking new positions once a basket reaches the defined loss limit.
This gives you time to reassess the strategy, review market conditions, and decide whether adjustments are needed before resuming.
Rebuy Interval
Grid trading often involves adding positions at predefined gaps, but adding too frequently can accelerate risk.
The Rebuy Interval allows you to control how often new cost-averaging orders are added, expressed in hours.
By spacing out the entries, you can smooth the exposure curve and reduce the pressure of rapid position buildup in fast-moving markets.
Example with rebuy every 72 hours, more significant exposure but shorter drowdowns.

Max Basket Duration
Another risk factor in grid systems is how long a basket remains open.
Max Basket Duration sets a maximum number of hours a basket can stay active.
Once the time limit is reached, the EA closes all trades in that basket, even if they have not yet hit the take profit or loss limit.
This helps prevent trades from lingering for days or weeks in drawdown and frees up margin for new opportunities.
One of my favorite settings, example with 96 hours max duration, baskets are closed if lasting more than 4 days

Max Orders
While grids can theoretically add infinite trades, in practice this is highly dangerous.
The Max Orders setting allows you to put a cap on how many trades can be opened in a basket.
By doing this, you prevent runaway exposure that can overwhelm the account during extended price trends.
Example with max 4 orders, exposure remains limited

Close Oldest Order After
Perhaps my most favorite options.
Sometimes, controlling risk means removing the weakest links. The Close Oldest Order After parameter lets GridX close the oldest trade once a certain number of orders are open in a basket.
This can help recycle capital and reduce exposure on trades that have the least chance of recovery.
In this example N = 2, so we close the oldest order when there are already 2 open and we need to add one more. Exposure remains limited and losses mitigated.

Close Basket Outside the Range
Finally, the Close Basket Outside the Range option provides protection if the price moves outside of your predefined grid boundaries.
Instead of continuing to add trades in unfavorable zones, the EA will close the basket and cut losses.
This ensures that your strategy respects your market boundaries and does not spiral into uncontrollable risk.
Final Thoughts
The Risk Management Settings in GridX are not optional extras.
They are essential safeguards designed to address the very weaknesses that make grid trading controversial.
By capping losses, controlling exposure, and limiting trade duration, these features can significantly improve the sustainability of your strategy.
Remember, no grid EA can remove risk completely. But with the right risk controls in place, you give yourself the best chance of using GridX effectively while protecting your capital.
Why GridX Is Different
Traditional grid EAs often operate with fixed leg distance and static lot sizes, leaving traders vulnerable during volatile swings. GridX goes further by offering features such as:
- Dynamic basket management.
- Cool-off after maximum loss.
- Incremental leg distance and position sizing.
- Visual panel with clear PNL and order tracking.
These advanced settings give traders a more adaptable and safer framework for grid trading.
